Oct 25, 2009 - 08:10:06Typical government. What about the cert. pt’s that work at my gym that are fat and out of shape or look like a skeleton and haven’t put their training to work on themselves. Are they going to regulate how a trainer should look next because that is one of the bigger selling points of a trainer’s business next to certs. Results are what is important not certs. We don’t need to have the industry regulated, like most businesses the bad ones will stop getting clients and fade away. All certs will do is allow bad trainers justification to keep in practice and make people who want training believe they know what they are doing. Much like other govt regulated industries. Another “unintended consequences” of govt intervention.
I agree that over-regulation is both not necessary, and will be ineffective. The fact is there has not been significant data stating that “unqualified personal trainers” are injuring people at a greater rate than “qualified” trainers.
Yes, the “unqualifed” personal trainers generally fall to the bottom of the food chain.
I highly doubt the California bill will pass, but there is a shift in national, and local government towards more control.
Should the personal training industry be regulated? Give us your opinion.
